1. Study a Master degree in Water Technology, Water Reuse and Water Management (WTE) at VGU and you will:

  • Learn a combination of sustainable urban drainage, water treatment and management that will help you achieve your career goals in water and wastewater technology as well as water reuse in the municipal and industrial sectors, together with hydraulic engineering. You'll be able to achieve the following as well:

    • Ability to assess and take into account the technical and social consequences of their actions, taking into account their technical, social, economic and ecological, regional and global impacts;

    • Ability to act creatively, e.g. to develop novel knowledge, process engineering and problem solving;

    • Ability to weigh up different solutions and explain them in a factual and comprehensible manner; and to make and justify decisions

    • Ability and willingness to engage in interdisciplinary and international cooperation beyond professional, administrative and political boundaries;

  • Join our research team and acquire practical experience in VGU's outstanding and cutting-edge laboratories in water environmental technology, water environmental analysis, hydrology, and other related fields.

2. Science Water Technology, Water Reuse and Water Management Labs:

  • Environmental Technology Lab: Water and wastewater treatment technology using biological treatment, membrane technology, advanced oxidation processes, physicochemical treatment, Drinking water purification, Groundwater remediation, Water Supply, Desalination, Solid waste management, Gas treatment and purification, Wireless Sensor Network based on IoT monitoring for environmental quality including water sensors, gas sensors, physical sensors

  • Environmental Analysis Lab: Planning monitoring, sampling, conducting measurement, evaluation of water and wastewater, solid waste, soil, air qualities & pollution levels. Conduct sampling and measurement of pollution parameters in waste sources in compliance with WHO, EPA, TCVN and QCVN standards.

    • Samples Preparation Lab: to prepare experiments and treat the samples for further analysis process.

    • Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry Lab: Research and analysis of pesticide residues, persistent organic compounds (POPs) such as Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), dioxin, antibiotic, Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), mycotoxins, acrylamide, sweets, ... and many other compounds in trace form with high accuracy thanks to modern chromatography tandem mass spectrometry equipments such as: LC -MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, GC-FID, GC-ECD,…

    • Spectroscopy Lab: to analyze the heavy metals concentration in water & wastewater, solid waste, soils, atmosphere as As3+, As6+, Pb, Cd, Hg, Se, Cr3+, Cr6+, Fe, Cu, Mn, Mg, Ca, isotope... using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP – MS), UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy.

    • Classical Lab: Research and analysis of multi-physicochemical criteria such as Ion chromatography (IC), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Total Suspended Solids (TSS) , Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), turbidity, salinity, conductivity, cyanide (CN-), NO3-, NO2-, PO43-, SO42-, Cl-…

  • Microbiology Lab: Research and analysis of microbiological criteria in water & wastewater, soil and air such as: Coliforms, Fecal coliform, Fecal streptococci, Clostridium perfringens, Salmonella, Enteroviruses…

3. Career opportunities:

  • The competencies in the subject of water reuse are a unique selling factor in Asia, especially Southeast Asia, in the area of water management.

  • Ability to work for the company in the field of water treatment and management in businesses along with environmental engineering, hydraulic engineering, and civil engineering.

  • Consultants, government agencies, industrial businesses, industrial parks, and equipment corporations are all potential employers. Applicants may also apply to work for development aid organizations such as the BMBF, GIZ, KfW, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, international organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), or government officers in the departments of environment and natural resource, agriculture, and rural development in a variety of provinces/cities.

  • Graduates of this program are also acknowledged as operators of water and wastewater treatment plants. Graduates can also work in the field of specialised education as a lecturer at a university/college or in the field of research as a researcher in a research institute at universities. Possibility of continuing a PhD program in Germany or anywhere else in Europe.

4. Curriculum / Program Structure:

  • Double degree from  Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany and Vietnamese-German University (VGU)

  • Full-time | 2 Years | 4 semesters | Includes three semesters of coursework and one semester of master thesis

  • The study program has been accredited by the Swiss Agency for Accreditation and Quality Assurance as part of the system accreditation at the Technical University of Darmstadt (AAQ).

  • Merit scholarship: The VGU Talent Scholarship is one of the most prestigious studies at the Vietnam-German University (VGU). This scholarship is awarded to both successful candidates and current students at VGU, based on academic performance or outstanding academic results. Talent scholarships are awarded to 30% of students at the school, not limited to faculty/disciplines
